Focus of this Workshop:

No one wants to face a BBS complaint. In this six-hour, in-person workshop, CAMFT Staff Attorney Kristin Roscoe will guide attendees in developing a better understanding of the BBS enforcement action process. Attendees will learn how to avoid advertising pitfalls and identify ethical concerns that might arise when posting on social media. We will close out the day by exploring how BBS has addressed "underground psychedelic therapy" involving Schedule 1 controlled substances. Against this backdrop, attendees will gain an understanding of the legal and ethical considerations applicable to the provision of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

Educational Goals

  • Assisting therapists in understanding the basics of BBS enforcement actions.
  • Informing therapists as to how to avoid advertising missteps when using social media.
  • Assisting therapists in their understanding of the laws and ethics applicable to the provision of psychedelic and ketamine assisted psychotherapy.

In successfully completing and attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the difference between an administrative citation and enforcement action
  2. Analyze whether a social media post violates the Business and Professions Code and CAMFT Code of Ethics
  3. Identify the key questions to ask before publishing to social media
  4. Differentiate between underground psychedelic assisted psychotherapy and lawful ketamine assisted psychotherapy services
  5. Identify at least six sections of the CAMFT Code of Ethics applicable to psychedelic and ketamine assisted psychotherapy.
