Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe how societal oppression is embedded in daily interactions and institutional policies and procedures in the education system and other public sector systems, as well as how these oppressions induce sociocultural trauma and push people from underserved communities out of education and systems of care.
- Participants will be able to apply key skills and strategies for addressing bias and mitigating sociocultural trauma to their own areas of work.
- Participants will gain skills in applying a cultural humility and equity lens to improve their trauma-informed practices of establishing safety and predictability, fostering compassionate and dependable relationships, facilitating collaboration and empowerment, and promoting resilience and healing.
- Participants will be able to provide an overview of key principles of neurodevelopment crucial for understanding the role of experiences in defining the functional and physical organization of the brain.
- Participants will be able to describe the emerging clinical and research findings that show the impact of abuse, neglect, and trauma on brain development in children, and describe the educational implications of a neurodevelopmental approach to children who experience ACEs.
- Participants will be able to identify the role of public policy, preventative practices, assessment, interventions, and classroom considerations in context of the impact of maltreatment on children’s emotional, behavioral, cognitive, social, and physical health.
Participants will be able to identify how those with lived experience are impacted by trauma and how to best support them.

Cancellation Policy:
Requests for refunds made to the Calciano event at least five days before the start of the symposium will be granted. We reserve the right to cancel any class within five days prior to the class start date with a full refund to participants. We reserve the right to make program changes in the event of speaker illness, natural, or unforeseen disaster. No refunds will be made if the registrant does not attend the conference.

To receive course credit, one must provide name and license information, arrive on time, stay to the end of the program and complete and turn-in the course evaluation. Attendance codes will be provided and monitored through Zoom, which generates time stamps confirming join/leave times. Continuing education hours are not offered for breaks or lunch hour. Attendance and evaluation will be managed by Health Improvement Partnership (HIP) of Santa Cruz County, Continuing Medical Education provider. The program starts promptly at 10:00AM.
