Finding Right Relationship with Clients:An Introduction to InnerEthicsTM

September 13, 2019
9:00 am - 11:30 am

Presented by:
Kylea Taylor, LMFT and Selene Vega, LMFT, Ph.D.

1.5 CE Credits

In the therapeutic relationship, it is relationship itself that is at the heart of healing and ethics and integrity are at the heart of any healing relationship. Ethics codes and laws give us external help in navigating relationship challenges. Augmenting this external approach to ethics with an internal, self-compassionate, self-reflective path lets us get to know our own semi-conscious motivations, so we can provide greater client benefit and reduce client harm, particularly during profound moments with clients.

This presentation will provide an introduction to the elements of the InnerEthicsTM method and its self-reflection tools including The Chart of Ethical Vulnerabilities as a tool to identify semi-conscious motivations. The presenters will discuss why self-compassion is important to ethical outcome and why it is a prerequisite for self-reflection along with a demonstration through an experiential guided meditation.

Learning Objectives:

Participants of this presentation will:

  • Be able to explain the benefits of self-reflection and self-compassion in finding right relationship” with a client
  • Learn how to utilize the InnerEthicsTM Chart of Ethical Vulnerabilities to help them identify their own motivations in an interaction with a client
  • Be able to recite at least one quick question they can ask themselves to determine whether a potential intervention is in a client’s best interest.
